PLOTWEAVER SETTING SEARCH

Help Shape The Tapestry!

During Gen Con’s 2026 Opening Ceremonies, we announced the Plotweaver Setting Search. Next year, aspiring RPG creators can submit their setting ideas to get featured as the next official Plotweaver release from Brotherwise Games. Keith Baker will lead the judging panel, 24 years after his own setting, Eberron, won the Fantasy Setting Search sponsored by Wizards of the Coast. More details on the Plotweaver Setting Search will be available later this year, and the competition will begin in Spring 2027!

FAQs

Who is eligible to participate?

1

You must be 18 years of age or older to participate, and legally eligible to work as an independent contractor for Brotherwise Games. Full-time employees of Brotherwise Games are not eligible to participate.

You do not need to be a professional game designer or published writer to enter. We welcome submissions from both established and emerging creators!

When does the Setting Search begin?

2

The Plotweaver Setting Search competition will begin in Spring 2027. Brotherwise Games will announce further details in December 2026.

How will participants be compensated?

3

The first round of this competition will be an open call for setting treatments (less than one page), and that round will not be compensated. Some entrants will be selected to advance to additional rounds, with more detailed submissions at each stage. Creators selected to participate in subsequent rounds will be compensated for their work. While Brotherwise has not yet announced or finalized these compensation amounts, the winning creator will receive a cash prize, a royalty on sales of their setting, and be hired as Narrative Lead for their setting.

Will Brotherwise Games own my submission?

4

If selected as the winner, you will enter into an agreement with Brotherwise Games granting us the rights to develop and publish your setting. The winning creator will receive a royalty on sales of that setting.

Otherwise, participants will retain full ownership of their setting submissions. If you are not selected as the Plotweaver Setting Search winner, we would still encourage you to self-publish your entry using the Plotweaver Creative Commons (CC-BY 4.0) license!

What criteria will the judges use to assess entries?

5

Keith Baker and the Brotherwise Games team of judges will be looking for an exciting, unique setting that make the most of the Plotweaver system. We recommend avoiding submissions that are conceptually similar to other Plotweaver settings: Erstwild, Hexbeat, Splinterlight, Infinite, or existing IP like Cosmere and Earthborne.

We’ll share more specific guidelines at the same time we announce the Plotweaver Setting Search rules and timing. For more tips, and to learn about existing Plotweaver settings, we recommend joining Plotweaver Academy and/or the Plotweaver Discord server.
